Which is healthier, chicken or egg? Chickens could be discussed, but eggs are a miracle in such a small shell – a source of healthy fats, vitamins and proteins.
We often eat them for breakfast in various forms, from scrambled eggs, cooked, baked or as an addition to main dishes and salads. No matter how we consume them, their health effects are very positive for our body. Yet over the years, one question remains unanswered.
Is egg white or egg yolk healthier?
Undoubtedly, egg yolk contains more fat, calories and cholesterol than egg white. But keep in mind the nutritional needs of the average adult, which can be partially met by consuming eggs. So we need about 50 grams of protein to help rebuild and grow muscle tissue. We also need about 70 grams of fat to help us absorb nutrients, protect organs, stimulate cell growth, give the body energy and help maintain heat. Additionally, we need iron, eight milligrams, which helps carry oxygen through the body. We also need potassium, 4044 milligrams, which maintains blood pressure, and zinc, which we need 11 milligrams, stimulates cell growth and maintains immunity.
When we talk about eggs, more than half of the protein content is in the egg white. One large egg contains about four grams of protein. Proteins are whole proteins because they contain nine amino acids. There is a big difference in caloric value between egg whites and egg yolks. Also, egg whites have almost no fat, and in people who eat foods rich in protein with a reduced calorie content, egg whites are common on the menu.
The yolk, on the other hand, contains essential nutrients and vitamins from eggs, as well as fat-soluble carotenoids that protect eyesight and eyes from cataracts and other ailments. Ultimately, both parts of the egg have specific benefits, but nutritionally, the yolk is richer than the egg white. However, it should be consumed in moderation because it contains high cholesterol levels.
